So, Stephanie Meyer is apparently on the list of Time's Magazine 100 Most Influential People...

I have officially lost all faith in humanity.

On this list we have world leaders, scientists, people who have been an inspiration to many, and...a woman who lives out her sexual fantasies through two God awful annoying characters: one an insufferable Mary-Sue, the other a stalker vampire Gary-Stu who sparkles in the sun.

WTF?

While on DeviantArt today, I found a comment on an awesome comic by (found in my faves under "Funny Stuff" where someone said the publishing world has become another American Idol, and Twilight is no better than Clay Aiken. I agree.

And what's worse is that having a conversation with any of the fans on what you think of the books, is a pointless exercise (well most of them, the few on Sheroes tend to be more sane). The last night at Girls State, we were all in the hall just talking before we went to bed, and somehow the conversation turned to Twilight, I very calmly, very rationally explained my position on the books. This of course caused gasping of disbelief and stares that had me checking to make sure I did not grow a second head. The conversation continued as one girl mentioned how her mother is leik BFF's with STEPHANIE!!!11!!one! (*insert worshiping here*) and people were discussing certain parts, at one point I tried sharing my opinion on a particular scene, and half way through my sentence, one girl told me (and I quote): "You don't like them so you don't get to talk!"

I just kind of shut up until the conversation changed to another topic. But seriously, I have discussed many a book that I did not like, it is allowed last I checked. Otherwise, I would have flunked Language Arts this year.

I can understand if people read these as a guilty pleasure, but these are not TEH B3ST B00KZ EVAR WRITTEN!!!!! (that killed some brain cells) and should not be treated as such.

So why is Stephanie Meyer ranked as being as influential as the Dalai Lama? JK Rowling I would understand, she is responsible for the the fact that most kids these days are even literate (read: the kids who think that me reading anything I am not forced to is just plain weird and I should be in a loony bin)...but she is not even on the list. I have not read Harry Potter yet (well, I read the first one in the 4th grade and haven't read the rest) but I plan on it. She does have more talent the Meyer, as do plenty of other authors I rather see on that list.

What is wrong with the world today?
